Rendering can be done in Gimp as well
When I first started using gimp...(well I never finished my work on it because it was really hard to work around with)..I actually rendered a image so that I can make a signature.
I actually never saw any tutorials on how to render a image in Gimp...But I just googled some and here are a few tutorials which'll help you render a image in Gimp
